ITALY - Campania (Amalfi Coast)
Campania is a region of Southern Italy with a spectacular coastline along the Tyrrhenian Sea. Among its most famous features is the breathtaking Amalfi Coast drive that rounds the Sorrentine Peninsula, taking visitors through a series of picturesque seaside villages on the route from captivating Positano in the west to Vietri sul Mare in the east.
The vibrant city of Naples, rich in history and gastronomic traditions, is the region’s capital and the largest city in southern Italy. Nearby is the fascinating excavation site at Pompeii, an ancient city destroyed by a catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius. Other historic tourist attractions are the Sibyl’s cave at Cumae, the Greek temples at Paestum and the Roman ruins of Herculaneum.
Several romantic islands beckon off the shores of Campania. Among the most famous is Capri with its undeniable celebrity appeal and natural wonders, including the popular Blue Grotto sea cave. Larger than Capri and somewhat lesser known, but every bit as lovely, is the island of Ischia.
A selection of exclusive private villas through Home in Italy offer visitors to
Campania a welcome alternative to traditional hotel accommodations.
