Always vibrant and ever-bustling, New York City is one of the world’s major global cities both in size and influence. An international center of finance, politics, entertainment, and culture, it also currently holds the distinction of being the safest big city in the U.S.

Midtown is home to soaring business towers, high-end shopping districts around Fifth Avenue and Madison Avenue, and world-class performing arts venues including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and the Broadway theaters of the Theater District. Visitors will find The Pierre and The Lombardy hotels to be ideally located for exploring Manhattan’s endless attractions. The Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum offers a fascinating look at World War II from the perspective of an aircraft carrier docked on the Hudson River on Manhattan’s West Side. Other top museums include the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art, and the American Museum of Natural History with its renowned Hayden Planetarium.

Further downtown are Greenwich Village, with its historic brownstones and cobblestone streets, and Union Square, known for its sprawling farmer’s market that draws the city’s top restaurateurs. SoHo bustles with high-end clothing boutiques, while Chelsea attracts visitors to its concentration of galleries and eclectic flea market.

The city’s historic financial center is Wall Street, the first permanent home of the New York Stock Exchange. While in lower Manhattan, many visitors are also drawn to the World Trade Center site.
