Nestled in the Swiss Alps, in the shadow of the legendary
Matterhorn,

Zermatt

Wine tastings are another popular excursion, while classical music enthusiasts from around the world arrive here each September for the annual Zermatt Festival, which draws internationally renowned performing artists for three weeks of world-class concerts.
Zermatt is located in the Valais canton along
Switzerland’s southwestern edge, 62 km southeast of Gstaad and just 10 km from the Italian border. Its remote location and pedestrian streets, lined with 16th-century chalets, recall a simpler time, yet it is just a few hours from major airports in
Zurich,
Berne,
Geneva and
Milan.
 Travelers can park in nearby Tasch, five kilometers away, where they can catch a train into town, or avail themselves of shuttle service provided by their hotel. Upon arriving in Zermatt, visitors can easily explore its quaint streets on foot, stopping to take in the shops, restaurants and lively nightspots along the way, or they can choose to travel by electric bus, electric taxi, or horse-drawn carriage.
