GREAT PLACES TO VISIT

Fraumünster
Chagall lovers from all over the world visit Zurich’s Fraumünster, formerly the church of the convent for nobelwomen, to admire the five choir windows there.

Grossmünster
The Romanesque 12th-century building is seen as the mother church of Switzerland’s reformation as initiated by Huldrych Zwingli.

St. Peter
St. Peter’s is Zurich’s oldest parish church, standing near the old Lindenhof fort. Late romantic-gothic tower. Europe’s largest tower clock face measuring 8.7 metres across.

Schipfe
Schipfe is one of Zurich’s oldest quarters. Until this day, it has remained a lane of craftsmen’s shops and romantic boutiques. An idyllic place for a leisurely stroll, shopping and eating out.

Uetliberg
Zurich’s very own mountain, offering a fine view over the city, the lake and the whole region. Popular with hikers and ramblers interested in a substantial excursion.

Zurich West/Escher-Wyss-Platz
Booming urban quarter: new shops, bars and restaurants, new clubs, movie theatres, galleries and loft apartments have been sprouting up in Zurich West.

ART & CULTURE

Kunsthaus Zurich
The collection includes: Old Masters, Masterpieces of 19th and 20th Century Swiss Painting and a unique Alberto Giacometti collection. Major international artists featured are Monet, Cézanne, van Gogh, Picasso and Chagall. Contemporary artist featured are Baselitz, Beuys and Twombly.

Opera House
Richard Wagner once conducted here: the Opera House remains renowned for its brilliant world-class performances.

Schiffsbau
A spectacular cross-section of the Schauspielhaus in the industrial district with artistic director Christoph Marthaler, who is responsible for ensuring quality and more than the occasional surprise.

Schweizerisches Landesmuseum
This fairy tale castle houses a gigantic collection of art from the Middle Ages until the present.

Tonhalle
‘Music is a better world’, says David Zinman, head conductor of the Tonhalle orchestra. The Tonhalle is located in the same building as the Kongresshaus. The concert hall was built in 1895 and inaugurated in the presence of Johannes Brahms.
