The Hotel Monte Rosa’s rich history dates back to 1839, when it opened with three rooms as the first inn in Zermatt, a Swiss Alpine resort town at the foot of the Matterhorn. It was acquired by the Seiler family in 1853 and its early guests included Edward Whymper, the first explorer to summit the Matterhorn’s legendary peak. Located on Zermatt’s lively main street, the four-star hotel continues to charm with its Belle Epoque style and intimate, Alpine ambience.
