The glamour, the power, the history...Manhattan’s Pierre hotel reopens after an ambitious top-to-bottom renovation.
Travel + Leisure, August 2009

Since 1930, The Pierre has presided over Central Park from its fabled Fifth Avenue perch. And now, this Beaux Arts hotel, the flagship of Taj Hotels, is more magnificent than ever. The second phase of a $100-million renovation has restored the New York legend to its original grandeur while introducing redesigned guestrooms and public areas. A new lobby lounge, Two E, is already the talk of the town, while London’s iconic Le Caprice will debut its sister restaurant at The Pierre this fall.
White-gloved elevator attendants hearken back to The Pierre’s early days – when glamorous figures such as Cary Grant, Aristotle Onasssis and Katherine Hepburn called the hotel their Manhattan home. At the same time, subtle design touches reflect the hotel’s new Taj ownership through Indian-inspired window treatments, rugs and artworks.
The Pierre’s 189 guest accommodations include 49 sumptuous suites, all designed in a classic residential style that exudes a quiet luxury. Plush seating, rich wood cabinetry, antique style desks, decorative fireplaces, hand-selected artwork and the hotel’s original crown moldings underscore The Pierre’s rich history and are balanced with the latest technology for entertainment and business. For grand-scale entertaining, a selection of specialty suites feature spacious landscaped terraces with soaring park and city views.
